Things have been a little busy here at Land of Promise Farms as we prepare for our Show Pig Sale tomorrow. We have had a steady stream of visitors over the last two weeks to inspect the pigs slated for sale with very positive feedback about the offering. This will be the only opportunity to purchase our pigs to finish for April shows.
The weather is forecasted for partly cloudy and 68 degrees … pretty nice for January! So plan to join us if you can. Here are the original details on the day’s schedule and you can use this map to get directions or give us a call at 757-439-0291.
We would like to announce that we are partnering up with Brain Stallings to sponsor a Pig/Goat/Lamb Jackpot Show in Elizabeth City, NC. It will be held on March 15 and 16, 2013. More details will be available soon on our website and on the NC State Extension 4-H website. This will provide our customers with another opportunity to show their pigs this spring!!
Our 1st Annual Club Pig Sale is just 6 days away. We hope that you can make plans to be with us next Saturday January 12, 2013. All of the pigs available for sale can be viewed this week by appointment. Additionally, the barns will be open to view the pigs on January 12 (sale day) at 10 am. Lunch will be served at 11 am. At 12 noon bidding will be begin via a silent auction style. Bids will start closing at 1 pm. Bids will close on a pen by pen basis. This will allow customers to bid on pigs in other pens if they get out bid for pigs in earlier closing pens. Quality of the pigs will be equal throughout each pen. When you arrive at the farm, look for signs directing you where to park and register for a bidder number.
Finally, we have posted pictures of a sampling of the pigs in the sale so that you can get a glimpse of the offering of pigs in the sale. Pictures are available for viewing under the “Gallery” tab of the website. Remember, however, this is only a few of the pigs in the sale. There are 70+ pigs available for sale in the DEEPEST set of pigs we have ever raised for spring shows.

We exhibited the Grand Champion Barrow and Reserve Champion Commercial Gilt in the open show at the North Carolina State Fair. In addition, Jacob Sauls exhibited the Reserve Champion Commercial Gilt in the Junior Division ( a gilt he purchased from us). Pictures are available in the “Gallery of Our Champions.”
The Scott Family and The Linton Family exhibited class winning barrows in the Junior Barrow Show (barrows they purchased from us).
Congratulations to all of you on your success with pigs purchased from us and shown at the North Carolina State Fair! We are already looking forward to an exciting and successful year in the showring in 2013!
It was an extremely successful weekend for the kids that purchased pigs from us and exhibited them at the 2012 Virginia Junior Livestock Expo (took the place of the 2012 Virginia State Fair). Cory Bennett exhibited the Grand Champion Market Hog and Zach McCall exhibited the Reserve Champion Commercial Gilt. Pictures are available in the “Gallery of Our Champions.”Congratulations to the Bennett Family and the McCall Family on their success.
Additionally, congratulations on a job well done to all of the kids that purchased pigs from us and exhibited them at the Expo. We look forward to working with you in 2013.
Late March and April pigs for the Virginia Youth Livestock Weekend and North Carolina State Fair are on the ground and doing well. Pictures will be available in a few more weeks. We will sell the pigs private treaty, off the farm starting in mid June and continuing through July. Please call for more information.
Land of Promise Farms would like to congratulate the Joey Scott Family and the Linwood Scott Family for their recent success in the Wilson County, NC Livestock Show with pigs purchased from us.
Joey and his family fed and showed the Grand Champion Individual pig and Reserve Champion Pen-of-Three pigs.
Linwood and his family fed and showed the Reserve Champion Individual pig and the Grand Champion Pen-of-Three pigs.
Wilson County has one of the largest, if not the largest, county hog show in the state of North Carolina. Congratulations to both Scott Families!!
